Bali’s Best Spots To Watch The Sun Go Down

The stunning sight of the sun sinking below the horizon never gets old in Bali. So whether you’re a regular visitor or a first-timer to the Island of the Gods make sure you get yourself situated in one of the best spots to take in this multi-coloured splendour between 5 pm and 7 pm each day.

Of course, a sunset in Bali can’t be fully enjoyed without an icy cold beverage to match your mood so we’ve located the ‘best of the best’ bars and sunset vantage points that the south of this little island has to offer. Our goal is to set you up for the perfect evening, so picture yourself sitting back with a drink in hand and pondering the mysteries of the universe as the sky washes shades of purple and orange and dusk finally closes in.

1.Old School Style – Ku De Ta

It may be one of the first beach clubs built in Seminyak but Ku De Ta is still smashing the sunset drinking hour out of the park. It’s luxurious, well staffed and well attended by the beautiful people of Bali who just love sipping cocktails at the beachside pool. We recommend you get there early and book yourself a day bed so you don’t have to wait at the bar. Then move on after the moon is in the sky to eat at one of the two fantastic restaurants they have on site.

2.Everyone Favorite – La Plancha

Nestled in the heart of the Balinese landscape where the jungle meets the ocean, La Plancha opened its doors in 2010 and was the original (and the first) Chiringuito styled restaurant and bar in Seminyak. The brightly coloured, vintage inspired structure was designed to bring something different to Bali. La Plancha BaliHaving been raised on the beaches of Spain surrounded by Chiringuito’s, the concept of La Plancha arose from the desire to bring a part of (creator and founder of the LYD Bali Group), Gonzalo’s childhood and culture from Spain to Bali whilst maintaining and respecting the natural beauty of Bali.

3.Day Club Dazzle – Cocoon Beach Club

Imagine taking charge of your own private cabana while gorgeous wait staff serve you cocktails and super mixes at a day club that could have been lifted straight off an island in the Mediterranean. It opens at 10 am which makes Cocoon the venue of choice for serious partygoers from the night before – but the fun lasts all day and it’s especially good for sunset with a ‘two for one’ drinks deal between 4-7pm each night. Dress to be seen and don’t be scared to get jiggy to the international DJ’s who are just waiting to lift you up, up and away.

4.Swanky Beyond Belief – WooBar

The W Hotel in Bali is just as glamorous as its sister hotels across the globe and the Woo Bar is ‘the’ place to take in the final rays of the day with a drink in hand. You’ll be served incredible seafood as you chat amongst yourselves but don’t forget to order your choice of bubbles from the double floored champagne cellar! (Squeal!) You’ll be tapping your toes to Latin style downtempo tunes and smiling as fancy wait staff treat you to all the best things Bali has to offer its international visitors.

5.The Crowd Pleaser – Potato Head Beach Club

We can’t really write a ‘best of the best’ sunset blog without including Potato Head. This Indonesian-owned slice of sunset paradise is an institution of its own in the south of Bali. It’s been cleverly designed to offer a beachfront bar, an infinity pool and a large arena type area where you can stretch out under the sun. The best spots are beside the pool but you’ll need to get there early to reserve your day bed. There’s nothing quite like sipping an ice-cold Potato Head martini with happening music in the background and a kaleidoscope of colour charting the sky before you.

6.Ladies’ Choice – Alila Semiyak

Popular with the girls for good reason the Alila Seminyak has a bar that stretches right out onto its own patch of private beach. Here you can wander between sun loungers to gossip with your fellow party goers or lie back on the manicured lawns but make sure you’re near the beach when the sun begins to slip down the horizon. The sofas and bean bags are perfect for snuggling and the tasty cocktails will go down quickly. We love the Alila and we’re sure you will too.

7. Hippest Clif Top Bar – Single Fin

It evolved from a surfers’ hangout where one could observe the rolling surf before going down for some thrilling rides, and into the full-fledged sunset chill out and live entertainment spot it is today. The bar has become regularly packed at sunset time and over the weekends when its jamming sessions take place, and with seating around its enormous main deck, which must be booked in advance. At any given time however, you can simply go up to the bar and order a cold Bintang to enjoy with the view until the sky turns crimson. Non-surfers can simply kick back and enjoy the gruelling action by pros down on the waves below. Single Fin then brings Suluban Beach, otherwise known as Blue Point, to life with its great live music roster featuring a line-up of international guest DJs and notable local bands. Come Wednesdays in time for their acoustic jams through midnight, or Sundays with rock sessions into the small hours.
